Liverpool needs to defend better

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes that his team needs to improve their defending if they want to challenge for the title.

Indeed Liverpool has been criticized for their poor defending in the match against Bournemouth and their goalkeeper Loris Karius was the most targeted by critics.

However, the manager believes that it is unfair to blame the goalkeeper alone and that the whole team needs to shoulder the criticisms. He said that the players need to defend better as a team and not leave the defending to the defenders and goalkeepers alone.

Jurgen Klopp said that Liverpool does not have any problem for creating chances and scoring goals and it is at the back that they need improvement. He said that there is a problem in the team if the opposition players are allowed all the time in the world to make a pass or to shoot at goal. Continue reading Liverpool needs to defend better

Liverpool is experiencing a restructuring process with various staff members being either promoted or simply laid off and Michael Edwards is one of the personnel that has sustained a change in his role at Anfield as Edwards was previously the technical director of the club but was recently promoted to the sporting director position and JurgenKlopp believes that this switch will hugely benefit the club.

“This decision is hugely positive for us. It will make us better and stronger in managing the process of building and retaining playing talent at all age groups. Jurgen Klopp will have a hard time choosing his team to face Dortmund

Jurgen Klopp has stated that he will have a hard time choosing the best team to face Borussia Dortmund in the upcoming Europa League clash.

One of the key issues will be who to select up front, DivockOrigi or Daniel Sturridge.

DivockOrigi started the game in Borussia Dortmund and provided strength and determination up front. This was important in a game where Liverpool was expected to be under pressure. He kept the ball well up front so as to give time to his midfield to join in the attack. He finished an impressive display by scoring an important away goal that gives Liverpool the advantage at Anfield.

And now with Daniel Sturridge back in form, Jurgen Klopp may have a dilemma on which player to start the game. Both players scored in their last game with DivockOrigi scoring twice from the bench against Stoke. Daniel Sturridge also scored one goal in the same match.

With Liverpool expected to play a more defensive game, it might be Sturridge getting the start this time. His pace can cause Dortmund all kinds of problems on the break, and this can be a solution that Klopp might choose for the return leg. Christian Benteke says that he does not understand Klopp Ignorance

Christian Benteke says that he does not understand why manager Jurgen Klopp ignores him.

The Belgian international was brought to the club by former boss Brendan Rodgers. However, he struggled in his first few months under the Irishman and Benteke has never really found his feet at Liverpool. The situation has become only worse after the arrival of Klopp in the middle of the campaign. Results were initially good under the German, but Liverpool’s inconsistency sees them near the bottom half of the table.

Just when it seemed that they were rising in the table, a 3-2 defeat against Southampton brought an end to the three match winning run. Benteke has started in only five out of the last 16 matches for the club. He was once again on the bench for the game against Southampton. After coming on for Daniel Sturridge in the 70th minute, the former Aston Villa man was guilty of missing a clear cut chance that would have given Liverpool at least a point from the game.Benteke has scored only once in the last 10 matches for the club. Benteke stated that he expected to get more minutes on the pitch following the arrival of Klopp but he is now linked with a summer move away from the club. KLOPP BRINGS CONFIDENCE

James Milner reckons the Reds were lacking self confidence before the arrival of Jurgen Klopp.

When Klopp had taken the charge, he had also said that one of the first things that he would look to do is to install confidence in the players and he surely has been able to do that.

Liverpool has played 11 matches in the Barclays Premier League in the tenure of Klopp and they have remained undefeated in 10 of those.

Milner has stood in as the captain of Liverpool in most of the games in the ongoing season as Jordan Henderson, the regular captain, has not been available, and he has really liked the way the boss has got the side going.

In the words of Milner, “The talent was always there, but, what was lacking was the belief of the players in their own abilities.”

“To have a new manager in the middle of the season is not easy on anyone. But, it happens in professional soccer and the players just have to move on.”

“Jurgen has come in and has gone about his job as well as he could have. He’s brought changes in the methods, but, in a correct way.”

“His working style has already earned him a lot of popularity at the club. He has been able to build a connection with everyone and it’s something you need to give him credit for.”

Liverpool has had just one bad game under Klopp and that was against Crystal Palace at Anfield last month.

They had gone into that game full of confidence having beaten Chelsea, but, had a pretty off day in front of the home crowd and lost 1-2.

However, the next game on road against Manchester City, they shined again and secured a smashing 4-1 win.
